Nowadays, companies offer many models and designs of stairs, which help us to reform our home. However, we must take into account some things before buying them. When we are designing our house is very important to consider where to place the interior staircase for your home renovation and what style we want. In many cases, we can choose the type of staircase we have if the design starts from scratch. However, when we reform an interior staircase either for lack of space or relocate it elsewhere, we have to consider different factors.
In today’s blog, we will discover the types of interior stairs you can find and the different elements that compose them.
Renovation types of interior stairs
Although normally the design of the interior staircase for the reform will be determined by the space we have, sometimes we can choose the type of staircase that we will have in our house.
The most frequent ones are listed below:
Straight staircase
The straight staircase is the one most often used in new construction, and if you can, in a reform. Thanks to the fact that you do not have to make any kind of turn, it is perfect for a rise to the main floor. They are very easy to install as they are usually closed either to a single wall or to two walls.
In this type of interior staircase, we find both handrails and railings in the parts where there is no wall.
Return ladder
This type of staircase differs from the previous one in that it has a central landing in the middle part of the staircase to be able to make the turn to one side of the house.
Like the previous ones, this type of stairs are usually closed either to a wall and the other side closed with a railing or closed by two walls.
L-shaped staircase
This type of staircase can be confused with the round staircase. The shape of the latter consists of a straight flight that ends with a landing and is followed by another straight flight placed transversally to the first flight. In this case, the turn is not as pronounced as the round stairs.
U-shaped staircase
The design of this staircase is formed by an initial straight flight, which ends in a landing, then follows another second flight that will end with another landing or cheese-shaped steps ending with a third straight flight.
The shape of these stairs is rectangular. It may resemble the spiral staircases (which we will mention below), but the amplitude of this type of stairs is much greater, so we need to have more space in our room.
Spiral staircase
The spiral staircases are those formed by a circular shape that do not have any type of landing. Normally, this type of staircase is usually placed in very small spaces or where in little space we have to gain a lot of height.
The entire staircase is covered with a railing to protect the ascent and descent and a handrail. Although they are less and less frequent to install, they are usually seen mainly for ascents to the terrace or in loft or duplex houses of reduced dimensions.
Imperial staircase
We could say that it is the opposite of a spiral staircase. This type of staircase needs a lot of space for its installation. Normally they are used for the entrances of quite big houses since it usually has two straight stairs of ascent ending in a landing where they communicate and then another straight section in the opposite direction.
This type of staircase is practically in disuse for a conventional house since its installation requires a lot of space.
Counterbalanced staircase
We could say that it is a fusion between a spiral staircase and an L-shaped staircase. This type of indoor staircase is characterized because it has an almost circular shape but is much more open than a spiral staircase. It has no landing to reduce its space.
The steps are changing position by turning gradually. This type of staircase is usually cantilevered although we can also find them attached to a wall.
